SUBMIT TESTIMONY TO WASHINGTON COUNTY IN JUNE & JULY 2024

Dear Folks with an interest in North Plains,

Thank you for supporting the cause to prevent the needless and excessive expansion of North Plains.

Groups are also working on all fronts to make sure this UGB expansion does not pass as written, but is rethought in a way to support truly affordable housing, agricultural businesses as well as commercial revitalization inside North Plans, and a realistic city budget.

The possible next legal step, if the vote on the May ballot doesn’t stop the expansion (if citizens vote yes for expansion, or if our efforts to sue against HB 4026-A do not work), is for the Washington County Planning Commission to vote on whether to refer the expansion to the County.

If this happens, we will need folks to give written and/or oral testimony in June before the Washington County Planning Commission. This meeting will be on Zoom, and there may also be a possible in-person option at the Washington County Public Service Building in Hillsboro.

Even a paragraph is great, and you can testify in writing, verbally or (best of all) both. You do not need to be a North Plains resident to give testimony.

We warmly encourage you to please:

  • Submit written testimony by emailing it to lutplanningcommission@washingtoncountyor.gov (when the time gets closer, if this meeting will still happen as planned, we will update you with a deadline to do this by. It will either be in late May or early June).

  • Give testimony by phone, Zoom, or in person at the Auditorium in the Washington County Public Service building 155 N 1st Ave, Hillsboro, OR 97124. To testify in person, just show up and sign in!

  • You can email here lutplanningcommission@washingtoncountyor.gov or call Todd Borkowitz at 503-846-3593 with any questions.

Feel free to share whatever is on your heart and mind. Your testimony can be as short or long, personal or technical as you want. We know from experience that connecting how this expansion would affect you, your community, your industry, or the environment you care about really makes a difference. Even if you can't be there, your email to the County will make a huge difference. Please email us at friendsnorthplainssmartgrowth@gmail.com if you need any talking points.

Thank you for joining your community to save rural towns and farms, provide truly affordable housing, minimize infrastructure costs, and prevent uncalled-for tech-sprawl.
